The Pie Safe - The Keeper of Pies, Stories, and History

When I opened the doors of Mama Jo's Pies & Sweets, it was all about the pies....honoring my grandma Glenn while using her pie crust recipe, greeting customers, and serving pies and sweets made with care.

But over the years, I've been reminded of something else.

I often think of the women of Oldham County ...not only have I gathered their recipes, I've been honored to interview some of them - or their family members - to get a real sense of who they were, how they treated people, and the contributions they made to this community.

"Though she be but little, she is fierce" - William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night's Dream

We often talk of cowboys and the men of Oldham County that worked hard and came into this area based on a dream, but this blog is to honor women who came alongside them to establish homes in this unforgiving landscape.

This blog is for them.

The strong women who we remember and honor by telling their stories and sharing their recipes....because they deserve to be revered, and their food...their love language...is worth protecting.

I started recording stories years ago.  Now it's time to share them.

Because in the end, it was never just about the pies.

It’s about the people.
