PERMANENT COLLECTION

The Art of Esme' Glenn

My interests wander back and forth from
Ancient legends to modern science,
From star-life to plant-life,
Faces
And exploring color.

FROM MAMA JO

A Word on the Artist

When my siblings and I were young enough not to have a choice in what we were going to do on vacation, our mother, Esme’, insisted on visiting every art museum within 100 miles of our actual destination.

“Happy wife, Happy life” must have been Dad’s mantra as we all endured the interruption of good times to go look at paintings by some dead person we had no knowledge of OR any desire to learn about.

Many years later, I’ve come to appreciate those times so much more, for the experience was so much more than what it seemed. I learned:
  • People who contribute beauty to this world are worth learning about.
  • To form independent thought and opinion while realizing differences of opinions do not necessarily mean one is right and the other wrong.
  • To look for and expect meaning beyond surfaces.

About Esme’ Glenn

A Lifetime of Creativity

Esme’ Estes Glenn grew up in Abilene, TX, graduating from Abilene High School in 1948.  Esme’ began her college career at Abilene Christian College and met her beloved husband there.  Married in 1950, Esme’ and Allen moved to Austin so Allen could pursue his law degree.  Esme’ finished college at the University of Texas and began teaching in elementary schools.

Art has been a lifelong passion for Esme’, from abstract paintings to landscapes to portraits.  She was very active in the Abilene Fine Arts Association and occasionally taught private classes.

Esme’ loved spending time with her seven grandsons, encouraging them to express themselves freely through art.  While none of the grandsons became artists, their fun “time spent at Ema’s” has brought them many great memories.

Esme’ still lives in Abilene and continues to appreciate color, spring flowers, and learning.
